Dr. Richard Stangler is a board-certified oculoplastic surgeon, bringing years of specialized experience to Vance Thompson Vision. Originally from Minnesota, he graduated with highest honors from the University of Notre Dame before completing his medical degree and residency at the University of Minnesota. He pursued advanced training in the William Beaumont Hospital’s highly competitive fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeries in Michigan.
After serving as a staff ophthalmologist with the U.S. airforce and sharing his expertise as a clinical instructor at Wright State University in Ohio, he pursued private practice. This led him to bring the specialty of oculoplastics and ophthalmic reconstructive surgery to Cedar Rapids. He is proud to serve the community he has called home for many years.

Dr. Stangler is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). His passion for the specialty of oculoplastics has led him to publish textbook chapters and present lectures to colleagues and patients.
