Dr. Anthony Mai followed in the footsteps of his healthcare professional parents when he committed to studying science. Yet his decision solidified during a shift in the UCLA emergency room, where he witnessed a calm, collected physician managing an urgent situation. At that moment, Dr. Mai realized the impact he wanted to make during his own career in medicine.
His passion for reducing health disparities for underserved populations led him to volunteer his expertise in homeless clinics, the Navajo Nation, and abroad in India and Tanzania. During his residency, he accelerated and standardized the surgical curriculum for future residents, as well as conducted research and treated patients
